Technical design, 3D scanning and functional prototyping studio

AMmonite Lab is a design, 3D scanning and prototyping studio that helps companies, workshops, technical teams and field professionals turn concrete needs into testable parts, interfaces and prototypes.

We work where a standard part is not enough: when a shape needs to be adapted, equipment improved, an existing object used as a design reference, or an idea validated before investing in a more advanced solution.

Our approach combines digital design, 3D scanning, functional prototyping and additive manufacturing when relevant, with one simple goal: creating usable solutions that fit the real context and are ready to be evaluated.

Design, test, adjust

Every project starts with a simple question: what constraint needs to be solved in the real context?

AMmonite Lab helps clarify the need, design an adapted solution, produce a first testable version, then adjust based on results.

This step-by-step approach makes it easier to move forward with a more precise solution that can be validated.

Concretely, we can help with:

  • adapting a part, tool, support or physical interface
  • designing around an existing object, piece of equipment or shape
  • using 3D scanning as a basis for reconstruction or design
  • producing a functional prototype to test an idea quickly
  • improving the ergonomics, handling or integration of a part
  • preparing realistic manufacturing with the right processes and partners

From additive to adaptive

Additive manufacturing is not an end in itself. It is a tool for creating more adapted forms, testing faster and reducing uncertainty before moving toward more advanced production.

At AMmonite Lab, the goal is not simply to print a part. The goal is to understand what the part needs to do, how it will be used, what constraints it must respect and how it can be improved.

Each project is built around real-world use: the person handling the object, the existing equipment, the work environment, the gesture to improve or the function to validate.

Our approach

Understanding the need

We start by clarifying what needs to be adapted, replaced, tested, improved or validated. This step makes it possible to design a useful solution, not just a printed object.

Designing around the existing

When a part, shape or interface already exists, 3D scanning can be used as a basis to reconstruct, modify, adapt or design around it.

Prototyping quickly

Prototyping makes it possible to produce a first physical version, test it, compare options and improve the solution before investing further.

Preparing manufacturing

Depending on the project, manufacturing can be done directly or with qualified partners. AMmonite Lab maintains control over the design intent, specifications and key constraints.

Based in Quebec, available for remote projects

AMmonite Lab supports companies, workshops, technical teams and professionals in Quebec, Ontario and across Canada.

Depending on the project, collaboration can happen in person or remotely, using photos, measurements, 3D scans, existing files or shipped parts.

This approach makes it possible to work with local clients as well as more distant teams, while keeping the process simple: understand the need, validate feasibility, design a first solution, then move forward step by step.

Real-world use comes first

Behind every part, there is a concrete situation: someone handling a tool, a team trying to improve equipment, a professional identifying a field need or a company looking to test an idea before investing further.

AMmonite Lab places function, ergonomics and the context of use at the center of the design process.

The goal is not only to produce a part. The goal is to create a solution that responds to a real constraint and can be tested, adjusted and improved.

Let’s start with a conversation

Do you have a part to adapt, equipment to improve, a shape to digitize or a prototype to validate?

Let’s talk about the need, the constraints and the best first step.
